Child Sex Abuse Crimes and Molestation to Children.

Representing Children in Sexual Abuse Cases in California:
Nearly 90,000 children were sexually abused in 2000, according to the Crimes against Children Research Center, and people they knew and trusted abused most of them. Sexual abuse in California causes psychological, emotional, and sometimes even physical scars that may never fully heal. We help victims of these hideous crimes secure financial retribution from the offenders. We are prepared to litigate your sexually abuse case throughout Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside and Orange County.

Child molestation is the umbrella term used to describe any unlawful sexual activity involving a child and an adult. Child molestation includes a number of offenses including: statutory rape, sexual assault, incest, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, indecent exposure, lewd and lascivious conduct, child pornography, dissemination of pornography to minors, child prostitution, and other acts of this nature.
Any sexual activity that occurs between and adult and a child, or a child and a much older minor, is considered unlawful child molestation. Individuals who are below the age of consent established in that jurisdiction are deemed unable to give consent for sexual activity, and therefore any sexual act involving minors is legally considered child molestation. Experts estimate that between 80,000 and 200,000 children are the victims of child molestation every year in the United States. A very high percentage of child molestation cases are never reported to the police. Most laws require the reporting of any known of suspected cases of child molestation to the appropriate authorities.

Most victims of child molestation (60 percent of males and 80 percent of females) know their assailant. Relatives, such as fathers, step-fathers, brothers, uncles, mothers, sisters, and other relatives may be the perpetrators of child molestation. Acquaintances (such as coaches, teachers, neighbors, babysitters, and friends' parents) and strangers may also commit child molestation crimes.

There is a common misconception that all child molesters are pedophiles. A pedophile is an adult with a psychosexual disorder whose primary sexual preference is children. Pedophiles develop this condition in adolescence to early adulthood and generally have the condition their entire lives. It is estimated that only between two and twelve percent of all child molestation cases are perpetrated by pedophiles. Conversely, not all pedophiles are child molesters. It is not a crime to have a sexual preference for children per se; it is a crime to act on these feelings and inclinations.
The majority of child molestation offenders are "regressed" or situational offenders whose primary sexual preference is for adults, but who will commit acts of child molestation for a variety of reasons. This group of child molestation offenders is extremely heterogeneous and it is virtually impossible to detect who is an offender among the general population.

Child molestation allegations in Southern California (Los Angeles and Orange County) are taken extremely seriously in the legal system. Allegations and official charges of child molestation can have a devastating effect on defendants. Even without a conviction, child molestation accusations carry an overwhelming social stigma. When convicted of child molestation, an offender will be included in national and local sex offender registries which inform the public about sex offenders residing or working in their communities. The legal ramifications of a child molestation conviction are extremely serious. If you would like to learn more about child molestation, please contact us to speak with a qualified and experienced legal professional in your area.

We represent individuals charged with all types of sex crimes. This includes, but is not limited to, the following types of criminal offenses:

  • Indecent Exposure
  • Molestation
  • Child Molestation
  • Pedophilia
  • Rape
  • Sexual Assault

Today, it takes only one person, or one child, to make allegation of rape or molestation, and the public erupts in a frenzy. The prosecution often believes the person who is making the accusation, even where there is little or no corroborating evidence. Tragically, the penalties can be as severe as life in prison, depending of course on the particular facts.
